Swedish as Mother Tongue is intended for children and youth, 6-20 years old, who study at a local or international school outside of Sweden and wish to maintain and develop their knowledge of Swedish, as well as learn more about Swedish culture, society, and traditions.  At least one parent/guardian should be a Swedish citizen for the student to be eligible for the subsidized annual fee. Swedish should also be a language regularly used in the student’s home.

Swedish as Mother Tongue is offered by us online on Zoom. We also use a digital platform where the students work in-between classes with reading and writing assignments, videos and audio-visual materials, quizzes, forums, and more.

Please note that the students who do not speak or understand everyday Swedish should not be enrolled in Swedish as Mother Tongue, but rather contact us for information about individual classes in Swedish beginners’ level/A1-A2 on Zoom.

Swedish as Mother Tongue is an educational form that is partly subsidized by the government through the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket), as it fulfills the agency’s regulations for mother tongue education for Swedish children and youth abroad (SKOLFS 2008:9). Therefore, our classes are based on the Swedish National Agency for Education’s approved syllabus for Swedish education for Swedish students abroad. For more information, visit www.skolverket.se.”
